What is

Music Therapy ?

Have you ever been having a terrible day and then driving home from work one of your favorite songs comes on the radio? It’s a song you haven’t heard in years, but you are suddenly singing along, perhaps at the top of your lungs. Then you listen to the lyrics and realize, “Wow, this is a message I really needed to hear today.” (Cue any Kelly Clarkson song)

That, effectively, is a watered down example of music therapy.

Let’s take it a step further and imagine that you are aware of those songs that help you manage your emotions. You build a playlist, with the help of a licensed board certified music therapist, to help you to create a tool for emotional regulation through music listening.

Music is incredibly impactful in our emotional development and influences how we relate to the world around us. If you think about how music plays a role in your life, it’s not difficult to understand how music can be used as a tool for therapeutic practice.

My daughter has benefited immensely from music therapy over the past eight years, including the last five years via virtual sessions. Elizabeth’s approach has fostered a deep appreciation for music, nurturing my daughter’s natural musical talent. Beyond the musical enrichment, we’ve seen significant improvements in several key areas. The therapy has been instrumental in helping her navigate transitions without frustration and establish healthy daily self-care routines. Furthermore, my daughter’s expressive and receptive communication skills have developed considerably. We are also incredibly grateful for the support in her pursuit of advanced musical training and her continued participation in the Adaptive Broadway Buddies program. Elizabeth’s dedication and expertise have truly made a remarkable difference in her life. Thankful for everything.
